North 6th Street Apartments
This project is a 13-story apartment building on a one story community facility base. Through massing and overlapping glazing patterns, the masonry facade "dematerializes" into the glass window wall which spans floor to ceiling on the three other sides. The glazed facades were angled in order to ensure that each apartment has views of Manhattan. The corner units are duplexes with 20' high ceilings. The one story base was designed at the maximum possible height to maintain the street wall. An indentation in this street wall exposes the opening to the 3 story apartment lobby. The roof of the one story base serves as a public terrace for residents and features a running track which crosses a bridge spanning the opening in the street wall.
